The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has created a new, comprehensive marine protected area (MPA) website to provide easier access to MPA information.

The new web pages are accessed from an interactive map, which allows you to find MPAs based on their location. Each page focuses on California MPAs singly or as a set of adjacent MPAs. Maps (online and print-ready), regulations, descriptions, photos, videos, and more are available for each MPA.

Using the “Find an MPA” map at the top of the California MPAs web page, users can zoom in and click on the MPA they’re interested in, and click on the pop-up image to get more details. The new online resource is much easier to navigate and provides a wealth of information on every MPA in the state.

Links to updated MPA overview flyers are also available on the new web pages, under the “Printable Downloads” tab. The double-sided flyers provide maps and regulations, as well as brief overviews, statistics, photos, and links to further information, all in a printer-friendly format.

A list of the new MPA web pages by county is also available on the CDFW MPA Outreach Materials web page. CDFW anticipates the new web pages will prove useful to a broad variety of those interested in MPAs, including fishermen, researchers, students, and the public.

To send inquiries or comments to CDFW about the new MPA website or MPAs in general, please send an email to staff via this web page.
