Have you heard the news that California’s network of marine protected areas (MPAs) is approaching its 10-year anniversary? Completed in 2012, the MPA Network will have its first Decadal Management Review in 2022. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and partners are currently preparing for the review, which will serve as an update on the four pillars of the MPA Management Program – including an evaluation of the MPA Network towards meeting the goals of the Marine Life Protection Act. CDFW will report the findings from the review at the California Fish and Game Commission’s December 2022 meeting.

CDFW has launched a new Decadal Management Review web page to share information about the review and process, including answers for some frequently asked questions, and to share additional resources. The web page will be updated as time progresses, with more information on events and latest resources informing the review. If you can’t find what you are looking for on the web page, you can also reach out to CDFW’s MPA Management Project staff.
