2021 “Year in Review” and “By the Numbers” Reports Now Available!

YIR and BTN covers

What did 2021 look like for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW’s) Marine Region? It was not the year many of us hoped for, with continued challenges to research, data collection, and management activities as the COVID-19 pandemic raged on. Two overviews that outline the hurdles we faced as well as last year’s accomplishments are now available in the 2021 Year in Review and its companion document, 2021 By the Numbers.

The 2021 Year in Review is a one-stop-shop that showcases the Marine Region’s major accomplishments, and the 2021 By the Numbers summarizes some of the most important commercial and recreational fishing statistics, as well as other Marine Region efforts. Together, the reports provide an easily accessible overview of the multitude of 2021’s activities and accomplishments.

Marine Region staff and our partners continued to work hard in 2021 to ensure California’s marine fisheries and ecosystems were sustainably managed. The pandemic and other unique events in 2021 shaped much of our work. Even with most of our workforce relocated to home offices, we accomplished a tremendous amount.

These Marine Region reports will help to inform you of the status of various California fisheries and Marine Region activities. We hope you enjoy reading about our work in 2021!
