The Draft California Pacific Herring Fishery Management Plan (Herring FMP), updated August 8, 2019, is available for public comment.

The Herring FMP is the culmination of over four years of work and represents the recommendations from the Herring FMP Steering Committee, a group of stakeholders consisting of herring commercial fishing fleet leaders, representatives from non-governmental conservation organizations and California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff. The Herring FMP has undergone independent, external peer review and has benefited from input from the California Fish and Game Commission, Marine Resources Committee, California Native American Tribes, and stakeholders. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has prepared an updated Draft California Pacific Herring FMP, which includes “Appendix R. Harvest Control Rule Framework Development and Guidance for Amending the Decision Tree”. Verbal notice regarding the addition of Appendix R to the Herring FMP has been provided to the public at the August 8, 2019 Commission meeting.
