The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) recently reached an important milestone by submitting the revised draft 2018 Marine Life Management Act (MLMA) Master Plan to the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) at the February 7-8, 2018 meeting in Sacramento.

Over the past two years, CDFW staff have worked with partners and stakeholders to amend the 2001 Master Plan to consider and include updated tools and strategies that will help CDFW better achieve the MLMA’s vision of healthy ecosystems, sustainable fisheries and fishing communities, and transparent and strategic management. The revised draft that was submitted to the Commission considered stakeholder comments and recommendations received during the initial public review process in Fall 2017.

The submission of the revised draft 2018 Master Plan to the Commission marks the start of the final phase of the MLMA Master Plan amendment process. The February Commission meeting initiated a three-meeting process which will involve a public comment period through April (see below for details). CDFW will update the revised draft 2018 Master Plan based on guidance from the Commission and public comments received during the Commission review process. The Commission may potentially adopt the 2018 Master Plan at its June 20-21, 2018 meeting.

Tribes and tribal communities, stakeholders, and interested parties are invited to submit comments on the revised draft 2018 Master Plan to the Commission by phone, mail, or email by 12:00 p.m. noon PST on April 13, 2018:
